About the role: Join hipages as a Principal Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and play a pivotal role in shaping the strategy and reliability vision for one of Australia’s leading tech platforms. In this high-impact, senior role, you’ll drive the architectural direction of our cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, observability stack, and developer experience. Champion a developer-centric platform with efficient CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD) and internal tools that enable high team velocity. Design and guide the implementation of cross-cutting improvements in observability, incident response, and infrastructure reliability, including participating in on-call rosters. Partner with product, security, and engineering leads to ensure platform and production systems meet performance, availability, and security goals. Uplift operational excellence across teams by embedding observability, SLOs, SLIs, runbooks, and blameless incident reviews into our engineering rhythm. Act as a mentor, coaching engineers, reviewing critical designs, and raising engineering maturity. About you: 10 years in backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering roles, including leadership in high-scale, distributed environments. Deep hands-on experience with multiple of AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Terraform, CI/CD Tooling (GitHub Actions and ArgoCD preferred), and infrastructure-as-code practices. Proven ability to drive large technical programs across teams and influence strategic decisions. Strong understanding of site reliability principles (e.g. SLOs, error budgets, on-call rotations, incident lifecycle management). Track record of improving engineering systems with measurable outcomes (e.g. MTTR, uptime, deployment frequency, infra cost). Excellent written and verbal communication skills — capable of influencing senior technical and non-technical stakeholders. A passion for improving developer experience, reducing toil, and enabling engineering teams to move faster and safer.
