Why this role matters The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely. About the role As a Support Worker in the Sobering Up Unit this is your opportunity to provide a safe and caring environment in which intoxicated persons can sober up as an alternative to Police custody in which a person’s behaviour poses a risk to themselves or others in the community. Reporting to the Community Harm Minimisation Specialist this is a Casual role, located in New Town Tasmania. How you will make an impact Monitor and supervise individuals in the sobering-up facility Always ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients Provide basic first aid and respond to emergencies as needed Maintain accurate records and complete incident reports Work collaboratively with support services What you will bring A tertiary qualification in the relevant industry A current and valid First Aid Certificate or ability/willingness to obtain A current Tasmanian Drivers licence An international police record check is required, where applicable A current Working with Vulnerable people check is required Mental health and Mental Health first aid (preferred) Support Workers must be able to attend the Places of Safety Sobering Up Unit in new Town, Hobart Tasmania 7008 within 30 minutes of call out.
