About the Role The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end design, implementation, and technical support of Monash Health's enterprise network infrastructure, with a focus on voice, access network, wireless network, data center networks and network security platforms. This role plays a key part in ensuring that Monash Health's network services are robust, secure, scalable, and aligned with clinical and operational needs. The Network Solution Architect collaborates closely with project teams, operations staff, and vendors to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions, resolve complex technical issues, and support the ongoing evolution of Monash Health's digital environment. In addition to solution delivery, the role provides expert-level incident response, contributes to technical standards and architectural governance, and supports continuous improvement across both project-based and BAU network services. Key result areas 1. Network Solution Design & Architecture Deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing network architecture designs that meet Monash Health's clinical, operational, and security requirements. Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards, digital health strategy, and industry best practices. 2. Implementation & Technical Delivery Lead the technical implementation of network solutions across Voice, Access, Wireless, Data Center networking and Security platforms. Provide configuration, integration, and testing support to ensure the successful deployment of network infrastructure in both project and operational contexts. 3. Incident & Problem Management Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex network incidents and critical outages, ensuring rapid resolution and root cause analysis. Collaborate with service desk and infrastructure teams to ensure incidents are resolved within SLAs and repeat issues are permanently addressed. 4. Documentation & Standards Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including solution designs, network diagrams, configuration standards, and support runbooks. Contribute to the establishment and ongoing refinement of network design and operational standards. 5. Stakeholder Collaboration Work closely with clinical technology teams, ICT operations, cyber security, and external vendors to deliver integrated solutions. Translate business and clinical needs into robust technical solutions that enhance service delivery and patient care. 6. Continuous Improvement & Innovation Identify opportunities to modernize and optimize network platforms (e.g. automation, monitoring, segmentation). Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements that enhance performance, security, and user experience. 7. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure all designs and implementations meet Monash Health's security, compliance, and risk management requirements. Support audits, assessments, and remediation activities related to network and voice services. About You Qualifications/registrations/licences: Tertiary and/or Industry Qualifications in relevant field Industry Certifications relating to service delivery methodologies (such as ITIL) Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Essential Technical skills/knowledge/experience: Extensive experience in the architecture and design of enterprise-scale networks, including wired and wireless LAN, WAN, Voice, Security and data centre environments and Software-Defined Access (SD-A) architectures. Strong understanding of network segmentation, high availability design, and capacity planning in complex health or critical infrastructure environments. Ability to translate business and clinical requirements into technical network solutions. In-depth knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), voice gateways, SIP trunking, and QoS for voice and video. Experience designing and supporting enterprise VoIP deployments, call flow design, dial plan management, and emergency call routing. Expertise in Cisco Catalyst, Meraki, or similar enterprise switching platforms. Proficient in wireless network design and optimisation, including high-density deployment in clinical settings. Strong knowledge of network security principles, including zero trust architecture, firewall rule design, VPN, and segmentation. Experience with Cisco ISE for network access control, Cisco Firepower solution. Understanding of NAC policies, guest access management, and identity-based network control. Proficiency with: Cisco DNA Center, Prime Infrastructure, Network monitoring tools ,Scripting or automation (e.g. Python, Ansible) desirable Strong experience producing design documentation (HLD,LLD), network diagrams, and implementation plans. Familiarity with ITIL practices for change, incident, and configuration management. Proven ability to troubleshoot complex Layer 2-7 issues across multiple platforms. Skilled in root cause analysis, performance tuning, and incident response in time-critical environments.
