The Governance and Strategy Section within the AusCheck branch provides the strategic, legislative and governance foundations that enable the branch to deliver effective and accountable background checking services. The section leads the interpretation and operationalisation of complex legislation, policy and reform initiatives, and embeds robust governance and compliance frameworks. Through strategic planning and communication, the section ensures the branch operates lawfully, efficiently and in alignment with government priorities, while strengthening its capacity to mitigate insider and malicious threats in high-risk industry settings. High-level stakeholder engagement skills and be able to work with staff of all levels The key duties of the position include Lead, plan and prioritise work, whilst adapting a flexible approach to changing business priorities, acting as the escalation point for matters of concern. Manage research activities, analyse information, and prepare high-level reports. Provide expert policy and procedural advice to staff and stakeholders to resolve a range of issues, guide work related activities or may influence strategic direction. Consult with and advise internal and external stakeholders, providing expert advice and anticipating and responding to their needs and expectations. Supervise and manage staff to deliver assigned objectives and services. Additional information A broad understanding of relevant legislative and policy frameworks and the external factors influencing departmental or whole of Government policies relative to role (or the ability to quickly develop this understanding). Ability to plan and achieve work goals independently and as part of a busy and fast-paced team. Ability to think strategically, particularly with focusing on achieving outcomes, demonstrating flexibility and agility with managing workloads, tasks, competing priorities and resources. Ability to work as part of a team in a complex and dynamic work environment. Demonstrate self-awareness and a commitment to learning and personal development. Demonstrates clear and strategic communications both internally and with key stakeholders and is able to elevate key concerns and propose solutions to the Executive. Identifies and implements innovative solutions to complex issues through engagement within the team, Branch and key stakeholders. Qualifications, and/or demonstrated equivalent experience, in a relevant field is desirable but not mandatory.
