The National Health and Medical Research Council's (NHRMC) Data Analytics, Reporting and MREA Section (DARMS) is responsible for providing timely, accurate and consistent data, modelling and analysis relating to NHMRC's support for health and medical research. The section is also responsible for developing and maintaining NHMRC's data warehouse; building capacity and knowledge around the use of artificial intelligence; and the financial planning, modelling and reporting on the Medical Research Endowment Account (MREA). The key duties of the position include DARMS is seeking an experienced and high performing candidate to fill the role of Senior Data Modeller. Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated professional with extensive expertise in undertaking statistical modelling and data analysis using R, SQL and Microsoft Excel. To be successful for this role you will need to be: • Technically proficient and have a strong interest and ability in applying a variety of techniques to interrogate large datasets to discover new knowledge and insights. • Committed to accuracy and experienced in undertaking rigorous quality assurance processes. • Able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally and able to translate complex statistical concepts in language that is relevant to stakeholders. • Collegial and work collaboratively within a team while also being able to work independently. • Able to manage projects effectively and meet agreed upon timeframes. Specific duties As the Senior Data Modeller, you will support the delivery of consistent data, modelling and analysis relating to NHMRC's support for health and medical research including: • Design, build, validate, document and maintain robust, fit-for-purpose, scientific/statistical quantitative models and code written in R and MS Excel. • Extract, transform and interrogate datasets using SQL, R and MS Excel. • Analyse data using statistical techniques using SQL, R and MS Excel to produce high quality written and verbal reports. • Review and quality assure reports, including providing advice on the appropriate application of statistical techniques • Liaise with stakeholders to gather requirements and explain findings. • Implement and maintain project management techniques to monitor project delivery and meet objectives within agreed timeframes. Core capabilities The successful candidate will demonstrate the following capabilities: • Highly proficient in R Studio, SQL and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to extract, transform, interrogate, analyse and visualise data using a range of techniques. • Ability to apply sophisticated statistical methods on large datasets to produce new and meaningful insights. • Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders to gather requirements and communicate complex analytical findings in clear language. • Experience producing high-quality and impactful written and verbal reports. • Show strong personal drive and initiative by taking ownership, working independently, remaining flexible to change and continuing to improvement technical skillsets. Highly desirable The following qualifications, knowledge and experience will be highly regarded: • Tertiary qualifications in actuarial science, statistics, data science or mathematics. • Experience in applying statistical and analytical techniques on large datasets. • Familiarity with NHMRC's funding schemes and/or the Australian health and medical research sector.
