The Aviation, Land, and Maritime Transport (ALMT) Program is conducting a program of continuous improvement to enhance the Bureau's aviation related systems to deliver a more flexible, responsive, and cost-effective service meeting the growing needs of the aviation industry. There are currently several systems that are in the process of being uplifted and transferred to ownership of the Data & Digital Group (DDG) from ALMT. This role will join the ALMT team finalise the technical uplift and gain system knowledge and then transfer the solution and line management to the DDG group to provide ongoing support and develop to the ALMT Team. The position will join the IT Applications team, which is accountable for providing 24x7 critical ongoing support and preventative maintenance for applications supporting the Weather (including Aviation and Community Services) and Climate sectors. They aim to deliver an exceptional customer experience for our colleagues and customers by providing specialised expertise and support. The individual will join a team of IT professionals responsible for development, configuration, deployment and support of the Bureau's critical Aviation systems for key users including Forecasting Operations centres in Melbourne and Brisbane. The position also provides secondary support for other applications supported the team. The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in developing and supporting complex meteorological or GIS applications using Python, Linux, shell scripting, Visual Weather and XML. Highly desirable skills include web application development and support, HTML, Javascript, PHP, Apache, and APIs as well as knowledge of Amazon Web Services. A working understanding of testing methodologies and software packaging tools will also be highly regarded. Excellent technical analysis, problem solving, communication and teamwork skills are required, as well as flexibility and a willingness to learn new technologies. The occupant will be involved with interactions with application and system vendors as well as other technical teams and forecasting experts across the Bureau. The key duties of the position include The responsibilities of the role (under broad direction) include but are not limited to: Development and maintenance of applications within established standards and agreed SLAs / timelines Investigation and resolution of incidents and problems within agreed SLAs Testing, packaging and deployment of configuration and software changes Development and maintenance of system documentation, including user documentation and standard operating procedures for support Ensuring adherence to Technology Policies and Procedures, including Incident, Problem and Change Management Continuous Improvement of systems, standards and processes for best practice Planning and prioritising tasks effectively to meet support SLAs and agreed timelines Liaising effectively with colleagues, management, internal customers and stakeholders to achieve role outcomes Other duties as required Participation in an out of hours on call support roster Complying with all Bureau work, health and safety policies and procedures, and taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.
