The Position Starting January 2026 , Ochre is offering a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off arrangement. That’s right - work half the year and still make a real impact (and income). This flexible FIFO-style schedule is perfect for GPs who want to blend meaningful rural work with a seriously good lifestyle. Ochre's well-established medical centre is the healthcare heartbeat of Flinders Island covering everything from coughs and colds to emergency care and inpatient services (with a view, of course). It’s a true Rural Generalist dream, backed by a passionate, supportive team. The position offers the opportunity to utilise a broad range of skills, including involvement in indigenous health, all in a stunning location. Ochre is looking for an experienced General Practitioner with advanced life support skills and recent experience in trauma/accident and emergency medicine, plus minor treatment room procedural skills. Ideally you will be capable of - and have recent experience - working without direct supervision. Obstetrics and anaesthetics are not required. A rural generalist in training would also be welcome. This isn’t just another GP job. You’ll be a local hero, delivering: Full-spectrum GP care Emergency and inpatient services (with great backup) Community health initiatives that actually make a difference Team-based care, with people who have your back Qualifications: Vocational Registration (FRACGP or FACRRM) or eligibility for Rural Generalist training Some experience in emergency/inpatient care (we’re not asking for Grey’s Anatomy) Clear communicator with a love for community-focused care A team player who doesn’t mind the occasional house call where the dog might join the consult Current emergency medicine certificate (REST, ELS, APLS, etc) The Organisation In the last 20 years Ochre Health has grown to become a leading facilitator of health care in rural, regional and urban communities around Australia, operating over 65 medical centres and Urgent Care Clinics across five states and territories and a service provider to more than 500 independent doctors. With a population of around 900 and renowned for its beauty, Flinders Island is the largest of the Furneaux Islands, located within Bass Strait at the north eastern tip of Tasmania. Rugged granite peaks, white sandy beaches and zero crowds allow you to surf in the morning, consult by lunch, hike after work and repeat! The Flinders Island Multi-Purpose Centre comprises nine aged care beds, five acute beds, an Outpatient and Emergency service, physiotherapy, X-Ray, podiatry/footcare and visiting services. Other services provided by the Centre include Community Nursing and Home Help/Personal Care. The successful doctor will also provide health services to nearby Cape Barren Island one session a fortnight. Working alongside another experienced GP/VMO, you will receive excellent nursing and administrative support and provide on call services to the local hospital, which triages all after hours calls. The practice is accredited and offers a mix of private and bulk billings; it is also a dispensing practice. What's on offer? Flinders Island is classified as a MM7 location and is eligible for the highest rural retention grants, triple bulk-billing incentives and HELP-FEE elimination.
