The Role This role is part of the Payments Platform Crew , guided by a clear and purposeful vision: “We collaborate to deliver resilient, scalable, compliant, and trusted payment capabilities – enabling safer, smarter, and seamless experiences for our customers.” The Product Owner (PO) will work with other Value-chain and Product Squads within the Crew, as well as other Crews across the Group and business stakeholders, to define both long and short-term priorities that align with our strategic ambitions. They will also engage with customers to ensure that product outcomes meet customer desirability, viability, and feasibility. The PO will lead the Squad in day-to-day operations to deliver change and lifecycle activities. They will drive a quarterly prioritisation process for their squad, manage a backlog of initiatives, and define metrics and outcomes that align with our strategy. The PO is accountable for leading the squad in delivering the prioritised initiatives. Do work that matters Accountable for end-to-end value delivery and product lifecycle management, including managing requirements lifecycle, production deployment, and release day coordination and sign-off. Collaborates with the squad and crew to determine the best individuals for change request and delivery framework-related administrative tasks. Acts as the voice of the customer and business, translating this for the squad. Remains focused and leads by example, not getting bogged down by constraints. Applies expertise to support prioritisation, balance trade-offs, and explore strategies to achieve business and customer outcomes. Responsible for addressing impediments, driving decisions, and resolving escalations. Drives product exploration using design thinking and analytics, formulating hypotheses to validate product strategy and design. Ensures all obligations across customer, regulatory, internal policy, and process frameworks (e.g., GDF, PDDP, RiC) are fully met and satisfied. Identifies, articulates, and manages risks, dependencies, and compliance across streams of work, such as customer propositions. Maintains a healthy and prioritised backlog to deliver business and customer outcomes. Manages senior business and technical stakeholders to ensure prioritisation is understood and agreed upon. Oversees the squad’s performance to defined objectives, including OKR tracking. Role models continuous improvement and customer focus. Drives squad effectiveness and agile maturity, such as sprint burn down, release burn up, and squad/team health, in partnership with Agile Coaches and Performance Leads. We are interested in people who have Proven experience as a Product Owner. Extensive knowledge and experience in the Payments Domain, including NPP (with PayTo both Send & Receive), RTGS, IMT, and DE. Solid expertise in BIAN Service Domain, particularly with Payment Order Management (Direct Debit, Credit Transfer, and Bank to Bank Transfer), Payment Execution, and Payment Rail Operations. Prior roles as a Product Manager, Programme Manager, or Project Manager are also considered. Skilled in developing a Product Vision and Roadmap to implement it. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven experience managing multiple stakeholders, including senior leadership teams. Experience with Agile methodology. Ideal experience working within a mixed onshore/offshore squad. Proficient in managing Risks and Product Compliance, using formal documentation methods. Ability to communicate and collaborate with BB/IB&M customers and customer relationship colleagues. Strategic and commercial experience is desirable. Experience communicating with industry and regulatory bodies is desirable.
