Flying Bark Productions is a dynamic and innovative animation studio dedicated to pushing the boundaries of character animation and storytelling. We are working on exciting projects such as Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Ghostbusters animated series and Stranger Things animated series, as well as our production Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan. *Please note that this is an Expression of Interest for a role starting October 2025 - must be open to relocate to Sydney, no remote opportunities available.* The Lighting Supervisor assists VFX Supervisor and Producer to bid, schedule and execute the lighting production schedule. Day-to-day, they assign and delegate work to the team and monitor shot progress. Additionally, working to, and maintaining, the creative and technical requirements for final images of the Program/s as required by the VFX Supervisor; and to the production schedule provided by the Production Company. About the role: Supervise a team of Lighters / Compositors and evaluate the creative and technical approach for assigned shots; Be organised and methodical, dealing with large amounts of shots, tracking versions and render management; Be proactive and communicative with the upstream teams and production; Communicate with the Pipeline team and aid in implementing improvements to the Lighting and Comp pipeline; Ensure the final Program/s are delivered to the correct technical specifications set out by the Producers and in line with the creative expectations of the Director and Producers; Working with the VFX Supervisor to maintain consistent and high production value; Writing concise and clear briefs and reviewing to achieve the highest possible production quality; Implement efficient communication systems, workflow, file systems and production tracking in line with budget and schedule requirements; Manage technical crew and artists through formal and timely communication including regular meetings, email updates and reviews; Keep oversight of the production schedules for the Program/s and identify all potential delays, disruptions or other perceived risks to the Production Company; Attend all meetings, and creative/technical reviews as required by the Production Company; Implement efficient communication and production systems to support the efficient flow of work in progress and approved passes for all stages of the production between each production partner and all departments required for the production; Encourage open communication within the crew and a positive, solutions focused approach to problem solving throughout production; Working closely with the compositors to bring shots from lighting through to final while maintaining timing and production quotas given by the production coordinators. About you: Excellent verbal and written communication; Superior knowledge of CG pipeline, processes, software and other related technical aspects for television and film production. Superior team leadership skills including, diplomacy, solutions focused thinking, calm under pressure, excellent time management and conflict management skills; Senior knowledge and ability as a CG artist, lighting and compositing artist. A superior eye for composition, colour, mood and lighting; Up to date and in depth knowledge of industry standard rendering, lighting and compositing software, in particular Katana, Arnold and Nuke; Knowledge of an asset manager like Shotgrid Python and CEL scripting ability is a plus; Ability to be adaptable, flexible and responsive to changes; Ability to manage time effectively and complete all tasks within production deadlines and on budget; A passion & infectious enthusiasm for creating outstanding visuals What do we do?
