About us Australian Government Solicitor (AGS) is the Australian Government's central legal practice and part of the Attorney-General's Department. AGS helps Commonwealth clients to manage legal issues, navigate new challenges and find solutions which deliver the best outcomes for Australia. Drawing on an exceptional depth of experience and expertise, we assist the Australian Government in the development and implementation of solutions to legal issues that have national importance. AGS is diverse. With offices in every capital city and a team of 800 staff, including 576 lawyers, we work in more than 40 different areas of law related to government. About the role The Practice Services team undertakes a diverse range of work to support AGS's 3 legal practice areas. This includes managing AGS's outpost practice, pro bono practice, induction and internal training programs, knowledge management framework (including its Legal Opinions Database) the graduate program and a range of corporate projects. The Legal Opinions Administrator reports to the Legal Knowledge Manager within the Practice Services team and maintains and updates the Legal Opinions Database. The Legal Opinions Database is a database of significant legal opinions primarily of AGS lawyers and Solicitors-General from Federation to the present day. It is a vital research and educational tool used by AGS lawyers and other lawyers in the Attorney-General's Department that assists in promoting consistency and excellence in the provision of legal advice. In this role you will: ensure that the database is updated weekly - with a high attention to detail ensuring new legal opinions documents are entered in the correct format and have accurate relevant metadata completed in relation to them liaise with authors of legal opinions to ensure consistency and accuracy within the database undertake audits of the database and implement updates to ensure consistency and accuracy within the database prepare reports contribute to knowledge management projects and initiatives as required. About you To be a strong contender for this role you will ideally have: demonstrated computer skills, including a good knowledge of database applications strong attention to detail and accuracy excellent communications skills and ability to work as part of a team knowledge or experience within a legal environment excellent organisational skills and ability to manage workload to achieve deadlines a flexible approach to work and a willingness to remain productive and engaged when priorities change.
