The key duties of the position include The Role The Australian Defence Force offers more than 150 different jobs, some of which are considered particularly complex and/or high risk from a psychological standpoint, including roles in Aviation, Intelligence, Cyber Warfare, Submarine Warfare, and Special Forces. Applicants for these complex roles undergo targeted psychological assessments, Occupational Suitability Assessments (OSA), as part of their selection process. This position is responsible for the design and development, from prototype to production, of fit for purpose software solutions to support the Directorate of Occupational Psychology's OSA data collection, management and reporting requirements, as well as enhancing the capability of the team's Mental Health Surveillance activities. The incumbent will utilise their proficiency in programming languages, understanding of system architecture, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills, to develop, deliver and maintain software, and build and deployment processes and tools tailored to meet business requirements. The incumbent will be required to draw on their excellent communication skills and to build effective relationships with stakeholders, contractors and other teams to contribute to achieving operational outcomes. About our Team The Data Management Systems team develops and maintains a range of ICT systems and applications designed to facilitate the collection and management of psychology-related data arising from Occupational Suitability Assessments (OSA) and Mental Health Surveillance activities. This data enables the validation and evaluation of policies, procedures and standards that underpin the conduct of the OSA psychology assessment, and the conduct of post-operational mental health surveillance. These functions are integral to the Australian Defence Force's (ADF) ability to optimise its human capability through effective recruitment and management, by: Ensuring those we recruit are a good 'fit' with both the ADF and their preferred occupation; Contributing to the ADF's ability to manage the mental health and wellbeing of ADF members appropriately. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience: Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a similar discipline and proven experience in a software development role; Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, C++, SQL, HTML and CSS, with ServiceNow, Azure, and Microsoft Dynamics experience highly regarded; Demonstrated experience in user needs analysis, requirements documentation, designing and developing fit for purpose software solutions, testing, debugging, program maintenance, and end user training and support; A strong understanding of system architecture and the proven capacity to deliver solutions tailored to business requirements; An applied understanding of code management and version control with the ability to identify and resolve issues in code, and experience in the use of secure coding practices; A commitment to maintaining data integrity and security across all system interactions; Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with an aptitude to document and communicate technical concepts to non-technical audience.
