The key duties of the position include The Role Defence Digital Group (DDG) is responsible for shaping, delivering and sustaining an integrated and scalable ICT environment, the Single Information Environment (SIE), to enable Defence to fight and win in the digital age. The DDG Engineering Branch is responsible for providing and applying technological principles to create, manage, and maintain digital systems and infrastructure in a scaled agile framework (SAFe). Our aim is to reduce complexity and costs, remove legacy systems to improve efficiency, and enhance agility. DDG is seeking highly experienced and technical Cloud Solution and/or Platform Engineers who will report to the Director of Infrastructure Engineering. You will lead the planning, design and execution of solutions related to Defence's enterprise cloud platforms, following best practices for architecture, security and performance. You will also be responsible to execute cloud migration and modernisation strategies and drive the move from legacy systems to modern, efficient, cloud-native solutions for Defence. The Department will be creating merit pools to fill vacancies across the Organisation over the next 18 months. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team You will be part of a team of ICT professionals delivering complex projects across key Digital domains in both the Military and Enterprise Systems Divisions within Defence Digital Group (DDG). These roles will provide technical expertise, mentorship and coaching in a matrixed construct, as teams and individuals are embedded into projects as needed. As a Digital Engineer in DDG, you may either: Lead a team of ICT professionals experienced in key technology platforms/products, or Work individually on projects as the technical engineering SME. Our Ideal Candidate As the Cloud Platform Engineer, you will demonstrate: Leadership and development of Cloud technical teams; Extensive experience designing, building/enhancing enterprise-grade cloud platform solutions (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS) at scale with leading cloud native capabilities, specialising in both Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. Alternatively, deep experience with Google and/or Oracle cloud platforms will also be highly regarded; Security by Design - embedding a robust security first mindset to protect applications and data, ensuring compliance with Defence and Government standards; Experience in Cloud networking designs (e.g. VPC, Subnets, Route tables, Transit Gateway, Route 53, Direct Connect, DNS, VNet, ExpressRoute); Proficiency and experience in DevSecOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD pipelines and tooling; Experience with microservices architecture and underpinning platforms such as Kubernetes (EKS, AKS), and serverless (Lambda and API Gateway). Collaboration with security, application, data, and network engineering teams to deliver integrated platform capabilities; Ability to develop and enforce cloud best practices, standards and patterns, aligned to technology blueprints and organisational goals; Solid understanding of cloud security principles, including managing Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles, policies and ensuring network security.
