As well as monitoring the standards of care provided, Safer Care Victoria is partnering with patients, clinicians and health service managers to support the continuous improvement of health care. About the role: The Clinical Advisor, Medicines and Pharmacy Improvement Program will be responsible for clinical leadership in the design, implementation and evaluation of the initiative to deliver the statewide medicines formulary. This function may be job shared to ensure diversification of clinical leadership. The initiative seeks to design and transition the Victorian public health sector to a standardised, evidence-based approved list of medicines to achieve the following: Reduce variation in medicines use, while maintaining appropriate clinical choice. Reduce duplication of effort with respect to some procurement activities at individual health services. Improve patient care and equity of access to medicines. Help to optimise medication safety through consistency of medicine use. Align pharmaceutical procurement strategy, policy and procedures with formulary decisions. About you: Primarily responsible for bringing clinical leadership and expertise to the development and implementation of the Victorian Medicines Formulary including evaluation. Chair and be a member of the various governance committees, advisory and clinical groups involving a range of internal and external stakeholders. Provide expert advice pertaining to medication safety issues and clinical pharmacology inclusive of formulary recommendations, preferred therapeutic agents, proposed restrictions and formulary decision making. This will include evidence-based best practice, cost-effectiveness reviews and horizon scanning. Lead formal engagement between senior sector stakeholders. Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships and networks with clinicians, professional colleges, health industry, government, consumer and academic bodies to ensure effectiveness of SCV in medication safety and clinical quality matters. Provide input and advice on other projects relating to medicines and therapeutics.
