Job description Would you like to join the Board of a community-based not for profit organisation that makes a difference for those most at risk of homelessness? It is an exciting time in the 42-year history of South Port Community Housing Group and for the community housing sector more broadly. Board membership involves working with a highly skilled, socially committed and diverse Board which in turn is supported by a high performing team led by an incisive and experienced, strategically focused CEO. We are seeking candidates who want to contribute to the expansion of affordable rental options for those at most risk of homelessness in the inner south of Melbourne. Ideally candidate will have skills, knowledge, and experience in one or more of the following - property development, tenancy law and management, marketing, philanthropy, government relations and finance. While previous Board or community housing sector experience is desirable neither are essential. As a Board member you will attend regular monthly Board meetings (nine x 2 hours per year); have adequate time for preparation; and participate on one of the Board’s Committees: Finance, Audit and Risk, Governance and/or Property and Fundraising Group. ABOUT SOUTH PORT COMMUNITY HOUSING GROUP South Port Community Housing Group (SPCHG) is a community-based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing long-term, affordable rental housing and support services to individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in Melbourne’s inner southern suburbs. Established in 1983, SPCHG has grown into a trusted housing provider, focusing on single adults and youth facing social exclusion. Beyond housing, SPCHG fosters a sense of community by encouraging resident participation in committees, local events, and social programs. This approach aims to integrate renters into the broader community, promoting social inclusion and well-being. SPCHG actively advocates for increased affordable housing and collaborates with various organisations, including Better Health Network, Launch Housing, Sacred Heart Mission, and MIND Australia, to provide comprehensive support services. SPCHG’s Strategic Plan 2022-27 focuses on deliberate, focused, and sustainable growth, aiming to expand housing options and enhance support services in response to the ongoing demand for social housing in Victoria.
