Software Engineering Team Lead We’re looking for a hands-on Team Lead to help shape and deliver next-generation digital infrastructure, the systems that keep Australia’s research and education network running at global scale. You’ll lead the design and delivery of new products end to end, owning everything from architecture to deployment. This is the right move if you’re currently working in a team lead or management role who thrives on solving complex problems and wants to step into (or continue in) a genuine leadership position, mentoring engineers, shaping best practices, and driving technical outcomes that matter. What you’ll do Take ownership of key projects, from concept through to production. Lead and mentor a small, highly capable engineering team. Architect, build, and integrate APIs that connect systems and data at scale. Design and maintain secure, reliable infrastructure that supports millions of users indirectly. Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to deliver elegant, maintainable solutions. Working on large backend systems coded in Python and exciting network automation projects. What we’re looking for Strong software engineering experience, Python is a bonus, but we value technical depth over specific languages. Experience managing and leading a team of talented engineers. Proven experience building, integrating, and managing APIs. A pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset. Exposure to telecommunications, networking, or large-scale distributed systems (nice to have, not essential). A genuine interest in building systems that enable research, innovation, and connectivity across Australia.
