The Opportunity The purpose of the BIG W SH&W lead is to drive and support safety, health & wellbeing (“SH&W”) across BIG W with a national footprint of close to 180 stores and 18k team members. This role will lead the co-creation and enable the delivery of the business SH&W roadmap in alignment with the Woolworths Group SH&W Strategy and BIG W Business Strategy, encompassing the management of risks associated with Retail operations, working end-to-end with our business teams and support functions. Through nurturing a close partnership between the operational business and the core teams in the SH&W Platform and wider support functions, this role will enable ownership and management of SH&W risks and assurance of control frameworks. Reporting to the Head of SH&W, this role will partner with our senior leaders and their teams to provide support, guidance and coaching as we begin to establish new components of the Portfolio, enhance our systems in existing businesses and deliver on our ambition to care for and protect everyone we engage. What you’ll do Lead the development and execution of the Safety, Health, and Wellbeing strategy for BIG W, as a core member of the leadership team. Coach and partner with the BIG W Stores Executive Team to implement and monitor safety systems, ensuring high store standards and compliance. Conduct high-potential incident investigations, collaborate with regulators, and implement proactive processes to mitigate significant risks across stores. Drive capability development within the broader BIG W Operations Team regarding safety processes, systems, and regulations. Maintain an ‘In-person’ national presence to build strong, trusting relationships and understand opportunities to simplify processes for frontline teams. Lead and simplify weekly/monthly safety reporting for senior leadership in line with Due Diligence and the Group's SHW Strategy. What you’ll bring Minimum 7 years in a safety role, ideally with experience in leading teams and exposure to working at an Executive level Degree qualified in safety or a related discipline, or demonstrable experience with Cert IV Demonstrated competency influencing leadership and frontline Experience in an Agile environment Demonstrated experience of strategic problem solving, including ability to make the complex simple and to build repeatable practical frameworks from ambiguity Excellent communication skills, strong and engaging storyteller What you’ll experience Hybrid Flexibility: Blend in-store, office and work-from-home opportunities for a balanced work week.
