Who we are The Biosecurity Strategy and Reform Division's focus is on protecting Australia from increasing biosecurity risks to agriculture, the environment and our way of life by continuously improving the national biosecurity system, providing quality, evidence-based policy advice and reform agendas to the department executive, Minister and Australian Government and working closely with our internal and external stakeholders. The division supports the operation and improvement of the biosecurity system by providing innovation, data, reporting, policy reform, coordination, intelligence, risk modelling and strategic advice. The Biosecurity Sustainable Funding Branch is responsible for: Developing strategic priorities for the national biosecurity system. Providing advice on reform and investment priorities to achieve strategic priorities. Providing advice on science, research and innovation opportunities to deliver outcomes aligned with strategic priorities. Ensuring funding of the national biosecurity system continues to be sustainable. The Strategies and Engagement Section is responsible for leading the development and implementation of current and future biosecurity strategies. This includes driving biosecurity focused strategies, such as the DAFF Biosecurity 2030 Roadmap and development of a national biosecurity international engagement strategy, as well as input and coordination of a biosecurity position on broader national strategies across the department. The section works closely with the executive, and stakeholders across the department, to provide strategic advice across a range of projects and priority work areas. The key duties of the position include The Job As a Senior Policy Officer, your role may include, but is not limited to: Supporting the development and implementation of departmental and national biosecurity strategies and initiatives, including contributing to monitoring, evaluation and reporting. Conducting research and analysis to develop robust, evidence-based policy and strategic advice. Building and sustaining positive working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including other Commonwealth, state and territory agencies. Coordinating stakeholder consultation, workshops and meetings, including gathering and synthesising stakeholder feedback to inform policy and strategy initiatives. Collaborating and liaising across teams within and external to the division to ensure consistency and alignment with broader strategic frameworks and initiatives. Assisting with the development of stakeholder engagement strategies and contributing to implementation and monitoring. Preparing written advice for decision-makers, including briefs, reports, correspondence, recommendations, and presentations, and responses to coordination requests. Other tasks as required to support the work of the broader section, branch, and division.
