As we embrace this development momentum, we are looking for a driven and experienced Senior Development Assessment Planner to join our team. In this key role within the development assessment team, you will be responsible for preparing and reviewing assessment reports, making decisions, mentoring staff, resolving issues, and representing the Council as an expert. This position will also support the Coordinator and Manager of Development Assessment and Regulation in driving a business transformation initiative aimed at fostering cultural change and achieving our service delivery goals. What you need to succeed (Essential Criteria) Hold a degree in Town Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Science, or a similar discipline, with a minimum of 3 years' practical experience in Town Planning and Development Assessment within a local government setting. Proven leadership & mentoring skills - experience in mentoring staff and fostering their growth, helping them build technical skills and achieve key targets while maintaining exceptional customer service standards. Extensive knowledge of planning legislation (Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979 and Regulations 2000) - proven ability to assessing complex development proposals across residential, commercial, industrial, and rural projects. Strong customer service experience with a focus on high satisfaction. Resilient and adaptable - ability to handle work pressures and competing demands, maintaining focus and productivity under pressure. Analytical and problem-solving skills - ability to critically evaluate issues, think strategically, and implement effective solutions. Strong communication skills - well-developed written and verbal communication skills. Hold a current C Class Driver's Licence.
