The Research Program delivers world-class research aligned with the Bureau Strategy and R&DPlan enabling the Bureau to deliver better weather, water, climate, oceans and earth system predictions information and insights and innovations. This position is in the Satellite Science team within the Research Program, where the occupant will be a member of a team of satellite scientists and software developers. The Satellite Science team is dedicated to extracting valuable insights from satellite observations to enhance decision-making for a wide range of users. The Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) is a national collaborative program that delivers ocean observations for research. The Bureau leads the IMOS Sea Surface Temperature (SST) sub-facility, that delivers ocean observations for research and operational use. The SST Sub-Facility produces a suite of near real-time and reprocessed SST products from polar-orbiting and geostationary satellites, supporting applications such as ENSO monitoring and marine heatwave prediction. As a member of this team, you will help deliver high-quality SST products, contributing to national and international efforts to understand and monitor the marine environment. The successful applicant should have demonstrated knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas: Developing marine environmental applications that leverage satellite observations to support the broader user community. Modifying, implementing, and testing software to integrate new data streams into existing processing systems. Establishing streamlined operational processing systems to automate the processing of large data streams. Preparing documentation to support the transfer and maintenance of operational code. The key duties of the position include Design, develop, and maintain operational systems and software for processing large satellite data streams, including the integration of new data sources and automation of workflows to improve efficiency and service delivery. Develop and implement environmental applications using satellite observations to support a broad user community, enhancing decision-making in marine and climate domains. Establish and maintain quality assurance and control processes, including calibration, maintenance, and documentation of systems, software, and associated databases to ensure data integrity and operational reliability. Analyse, modify, and optimise software systems, incorporating new scientific methods or procedural changes to improve performance, accuracy, and effectiveness. Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation to support operational code transfer, system maintenance, and scientific communication, including writing reports, manuals, and peer-reviewed publications. Upholding workplace safety standards by adhering to all Bureau work health and safety policies and ensuring the wellbeing of yourself and others in the workplace. Fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture aligned with the 'Bureau Way', promoting empowerment, excellence, customer focus, and trust across the organisation.
