Your role at St John of God Richmond Hospital You will provide professional Specialist Psychiatric services including comprehensive consultation and continuing care of patients requiring inpatient, day patient, and outpatient services. Provide clinical expertise in the Neurostimulation Suite. Participate in a cross section of committees as a medical advisor, support colleagues, junior doctors and medical students and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Liaise with external care providers as required to provide a safe transfer of care. This role is permanent part-time 28.5 hours per week. The Position Manage psychiatric emergencies in accordance with standard procedures and within the legal framework of the Mental Health Act. Formulate a management plan for the patient in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, appropriate to the level of risk and presenting problems. Consult and collaborate with colleagues and other health professionals regarding management including general practitioners, family and carers Participate and provide clinical leadership in effective discharge of inpatients, either from the services or to appropriate ongoing management programs. Engage in weekly case conference in person or via telephone during business hours. Complete documentation for health funds, insurance companies as per the agency specifies. Willingness to sign psych care certificates for locum psychiatrists. Participate in risk management and quality programs including reporting of incidents, Root Cause Analysis (RCA’s) and M&M meetings, clinical audit department meetings, peer review coordination. Participate as medical representative on committees, including Medical Advisory, Neurostimulation and Drugs & Therapeutics Committees. Ensure quality and standards of care are met within own clinical practice and patient care reflects best practice guidelines and is evidence based, as well as compliance with relevant legislation and regulations, policies and procedures. Provide clinical leadership on documentation, including that which is required under the mental health act, clinical indicators, standardised outcome assessment tools, e.g. SPPGS. Ensure timely completion of medical records for patients under own care including the completion of a final discharge summaries within 14 days of discharge. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations, policies and procedures You will be Current specialist medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia, and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. You will have demonstrated substantial clinical experience in the management of high acuity patients in a complex hospital environment and ability to implement sustainable change to improve patient safety and reduce unnecessary delays in patient management.
