The key duties of the position include The Role Reporting to the Discipline Lead Scientific Compute Data Centres (SCDC), the S&T5 (EL1) Facilities Manager is responsible for the strategic development, operational oversight, and compliance management of DSTG's national research ICT facilities residing outside of data centres. This includes communications rooms, horizontal and vertical cable distribution, and associated physical infrastructure supporting secure research networks. The role ensures alignment with Defence security frameworks and contributes to the broader data centre and ICT facility strategy. As part of the SCDC executive leadership structure. The occupant of this position will also contribute to process development relating to the overarching management of data centres, communications rooms, vertical and horizontal cable structure reticulation. Key Responsibilities: Infrastructure Management: Oversee the lifecycle management of communications rooms and ICT cabling infrastructure across DSTG sites, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance. Security & Compliance: Ensure electrical safety and WHS compliance, Lead implementation of security uplifts and manage access control systems and key/locking systems in accordance with ISM, DSPF, DCS, and other Defence policies. Project Representation: Represent DSSC in internal and external project meetings, including Defence estate works and design reviews, providing expert advice on ICT infrastructure impacts and security implications. Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, Security & Estate Group, Contractors, and other external partners to support ICT cable transition and facility management. Policy & Strategy Contribution: Contribute to the development and refinement of DSTG national ICT facility policies, standards, and strategic planning documents, ensuring alignment with DSTG's research and operational goals. Leadership & Coordination: Provide leadership across national ICT facility teams, coordinating activities, sharing best practices, and supporting continuous improvement. As a smaller team, we value work/life balance and foster a supportive culture across team members and stakeholders. The position has a prime responsibility for working on estate however some activities can be coordinated into a work from home (WFH) capability. As an executive officer flextime is not included however TOIL (time off in lieu) can be accumulated with managerial agreement. Travel: Required for national coordination and site inspections. Restriction Duty (on call after hours): May be applicable depending on operational requirements. Work from Home: Supported at a minimal to moderate level, subject to operational needs. About our Team Research Technology and Operations Division (RTO) delivers specialist capabilities to Defence Innovation Science and Technology (IS&T). RTO comprises a professional workforce of engineers, technicians, computational scientists and other staff who provide a wide range of highly specialised and unique research capability and innovative solutions delivering advanced research platforms for defence, national security and the wider IS&T ecosystem. RTO capabilities accelerate and protect Defence's science and technology advances and promote a collaborative, compliant, safe and healthy workplace. SCDC are a small team of highly skilled professional officers with the responsibility of managing DST research data centres and communications rooms, the team has competence in the areas of security, electrical distribution, cooling systems control and building management systems. SCDC's facilities are located in Edinburgh SA, Fishermans Bend VIC, HMAS Stirling WA, ATP NSW, Eagle Farm Qld and Scottsdale TAS.
