The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (the Reef Authority) is a Commonwealth non-corporate entity, and a statutory agency established by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 (Marine Park Act), reporting to the Minister for the Environment and Water. Our objective is the long-term protection, ecologically sustainable use, understanding and enjoyment of the Great Barrier Reef for all Australians and the international community through the care and development of the Marine Park. Managing a reef roughly the size of Italy demands many skills and talents, so you don't have to be a marine biologist to contribute to our mission. The Position We are seeking an agile and highly skilled professional to manage the Reef Authority's International engagement and capacity building activities, and to work in partnership with key stakeholders to promote awareness of threats to coral reefs globally. The position will also support Australia's leading role in the International Coral Reef Initiative and other forums and contribute to shaping the strategic direction of the Reef Authority. About You You have exceptional written skills, an eye for detail and can work with limited direction to achieve high quality outcomes, applying judgement, logic and discretion appropriately. You are a strategic thinker and problem solver, and are known for seeing things through. You are an effective communicator who recognises the ideas and contributions of others and motivates and inspires through your actions. You are experienced in relationship and stakeholder management. You have experience working with international affairs. You thrive under pressure, have an eye for detail and don't get flustered when faced with competing priorities. You enjoy being part of a cohesive team. The key duties of the position include Support the delivery of Reef Authority's international activities including leading the Reef Authority's contribution to international forums particularly the International Coral Reef Initiative; providing support to shape the strategic direction of the Reef Authority through international engagement, capacity building, and establishing and maintaining effective relationships; and co-ordinating the Reef Authority's attendance at international conferences and hosting approved international delegations. Exercise sound professional judgement in anticipating, managing and resolving problems relevant to the Reef Authority's international business role, including monitoring budgets and progress towards key performance indicators. Contribute to managing the Reef Authority's responsibilities for Commonwealth, National and World Heritage matters, including liaising with other government departments. Coordinate and prepare high quality advice and written material that is timely, practical, transparent and risk-based. Advice will cover complex matters including international and the Reef Authority's involvement with international bodies. Material could include ministerial correspondence and cables, briefs, reports, position statements, strategic policies and plans.
