The key duties of the position include The Role Within ICT Service Delivery, an EL 1 ICT Network Engineer operates under broad direction to deliver complex network design and planning. They apply deep knowledge of legislative frameworks, Defence policy, and service delivery functions. Acting as a subject matter expert, they exercise sound judgement to provide expert policy advice and manage compliance with relevant procedures. The role involves solving complex problems, managing sensitive projects, and influencing strategic outcomes. EL 1 Engineers may lead teams or projects, ensuring quality output and resource efficiency, while fostering capability through coaching and feedback. They manage stakeholder relationships, aligning expectations with delivery methodologies, and contribute to continuous improvement and professional development within their area. About our Team Joint Capabilities Group (JCG) was formed in July 2017 and has continued to evolve since its inception. We are a fully integrated civilian-military-contractor workforce, drawing on high-quality and motivated people who embody Defence and Australian Public Service values. JCG is a multi-domain Group comprising of Space, Cyber and the Defence Networks, and delivering Military Strategic Effects and Logistics for the Defence Enterprise Cyber Operations Division (COD), responsible for the integration, operation, management and security of Defence's global strategic communications capability that enable military operations and support Defence business. COD is also responsible at the strategic level to the Chief of Defence Force and Chief of Joint Operations for advice and technical control for the Command, Control, and Communications and Cyber security in support of ADF Operations. COD consists of four branches: Service Management Branch (SMB); Enterprise Technology Operations Branch (ETOB); Defence Strategic Communications Branch (DSCB); J6 Operations Support (J6OS). Our Ideal Candidate An EL 1 ICT Network Engineer in Defence is responsible for leading network planning and infrastructure design to meet service level agreements. They apply expert knowledge of Defence and industry-standard network hardware and software, ensuring continuity during installations and integrations through effective change management. The role involves analysing complex engineering issues, recommending solutions, and overseeing installation, upgrades, and operation of local and wide area networks. EL 1 Engineers build and sustain stakeholder relationships across Defence and other organisations, mentor teams, and allocate resources to deliver results. They guide less experienced staff, share expertise, and evaluate projects to identify success factors and drive continuous improvement. Their work is accountable to timeframes and quality standards, contributing significantly to Defence's ICT capabilities.
