The key duties of the position include Are you interested in providing expert legal advice on cutting edge policies and programs? Do you want to have a pivotal role in building our in-house legal capabilities? The Department of Industry, Science and Resources is seeking a high performing SES Band 1 General Counsel to support our vision to enable a productive economy, enriched by science and technology, for all Australians. Our key policies and programs include: driving the Future Made in Australia agenda to strengthen sovereign capability and economic resilience accelerating Australia's transition to net zero through green metals and clean energy initiatives expanding critical minerals processing and securing strategic supply chains advancing science and technology leadership through quantum, AI, robotics and emerging technologies leading governance for safe and responsible adoption of artificial intelligence fostering innovation and commercialisation through programs like the Industry Growth Program and Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund supporting research and development to maximise impact and collaboration championing diversity and capability building across STEM and industry You will become part of a high-performing, professional Commonwealth legal practice. You will be a leader in a practice that is committed to excellence and takes pride in the high-level legal of expertise in its staff. You will also have a unique opportunity to provide high quality advice to senior management and Ministers, and coordinate and assume responsibility for sensitive projects or work programs with strategic national significance. You will provide high-level strategic support and management for one of our two Legal Branches and join the Chief Counsel and Integrity Division executive leadership team. Our ideal candidate will be: a proven legal leader with deep experience in providing strategic legal advice at senior levels, and a track record of building high-performing legal teams able to demonstrate highly developed liaison and negotiation skills, complemented by strong management and governance experience an innovative thinker, who can manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a complex regulatory environment able to harness information from a variety of sources and apply well developed analytical and problem-solving skills to legal and policy challenges highly motivated, with an agile approach that enables you to anticipate opportunities and encourage creativity and innovative ideas able to initiate and manage change within your branch, ensuring the team remains focused on delivering high-quality, legally sound outcomes for the department In addition, you must be able to contribute to the strategic direction of the department, delivering reform and driving change, and providing authoritative legal leadership that supports our vision and priorities.
