The Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to lands and waters. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and to Elders past and present. The AIFS office is located by the banks of the Birrarung Marr (Yarra River) in Naarm (Melbourne). The traditional custodians of the land in which AIFS is located are the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We are excited to launch our First Nations Temporary Employment Register as a key step in increasing visibility and access to opportunities for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. We recognise the unique contributions and vital role that First Nations talent can bring to our workplace. We are dedicated to fostering a culture where diversity, inclusion and respect are at the forefront of everything we do. Applications to this Register are open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. The Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS, or 'the Institute') is the Australian Government's key research body in the area of family wellbeing. It is an independent statutory authority established in 1980 under the Family Law Act 1975. It is also home to the Australian Gambling Research Centre (AGRC), established under the Gambling Measure Act 2012 which builds the evidence base on gambling-related harm. The Institute is an agency within the portfolio of the Department of Social Services (DSS). Our mission is to conduct high-quality, impartial research into the wellbeing of Australian families, to inform government policy and promote evidence-based practice in the family services sector. We conduct research, provide independent advice and communicate findings to government policy-makers, service providers, researchers and the community about factors affecting family wellbeing. Through our research, we contribute to developing policy and practice to promote the wellbeing of families in Australia. We are seeking expressions of interest from motivated and driven Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples with a keen interest in the Research and Corporate space that have skills and experience in a range of areas of expertise, to support the work of the Institute. The AIFS First Nations Temporary Employment Register will help us fill future non-ongoing vacancies that may arise at the APS Level 3 to APS 6 level, and Executive Level 1 and Executive Level 2 classifications. Positions that become available will be based in our Melbourne office.
