Join our team as a First Nations Liaison Officer (Identified position) This vacancy is open to everyone, an Identified position refers to the job role. Candidates must have an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and proven culturally appropriate engagement and communication skills. The Administrative Review Tribunal (the Tribunal) is looking for multiple dedicated APS5 First Nations Liaison Officers to join our Accessibility and User-Centred Design team to help strengthen outcomes and service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. In these roles, you'll champion cultural capability and help shape more inclusive and effective services. These hybrid positions can be located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney. Non-ongoing positions can be offered for a period of up to 12 months with the possibility of one extension. These positions are 'Identified' positions which signifies that the roles have a strong involvement in issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The successful applicant/s must have an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People. About the opportunity First Nations Liaison Officers are part of a team that support community engagements and activities at the national level to partner with First Nations communities and their representatives to raise awareness and improve access to-the Tribunal. You will also contribute to the Tribunals overall cultural capability, cultural safety and Closing the Gap initiatives including the Reconciliation Action Plan. The key duties of the position include Cultural capability: Apply sound knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting First Nations peoples, including policy matters and engagement processes within a Tribunal context. Support the development and implementation of programs that help provide a First Nations perspective and encourage greater equity and inclusion for First Nations applicants to the Tribunal. Engage and develop First Nations employees, creating a culturally inclusive workplace, contributing to cultural awareness initiatives and policies to ensure a First Nations perspective is placed on Tribunal programs and activities. Stakeholder engagement: Effectively build and maintain a network of key stakeholders with First Nations communities and their representatives, other government agencies, and within the Tribunal. Deliver and lead information sessions to members and staff. Communicate with influence: Communicate sensitively and effectively with First Nations people, and internal and external stakeholders. Excellent communication, negotiation and liaison skills with a proven ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, in particular, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Project and Case management: Support specific objectives relating to raising awareness, improving access and support for First Nations people, and contribute to increased workforce understanding, value and recognition of First Nations cultures, histories, knowledge, and rights. This also includes the case management of First Nations applicants to provide cultural assistance and guidance throughout the process. Strategic advice: Develop and contribute to strategic approaches to raise awareness of, and improve experiences for, independent administrative review for First Nations peoples, including a program of work, performance targets, and priority areas. Contribute to the Tribunal's strategic approach to Closing the Gap initiatives and our Reconciliation Action Plan. About you: The ideal candidates can work with a range of stakeholders, communities, and individuals. To be successful you will have: Well-developed cultural competency and a deep understanding of the issues affecting First Nations peoples and communities. The ability to build community engagement and manage relationships in a culturally diverse environment, communicating issues sensitively and effectively to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Demonstrated project management and planning skills, and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple competing priorities at once in tight timeframes. Demonstrated strong sense of self-awareness, working to foster respect, inclusion, and cultural and psychosocial safety in the workplace. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, and apply a solutions-focused innovative, and agile approach to deliver quality timely advice and achieve results.
