The key duties of the position include The Role There are number of roles for an Executive Level 1 Manager within the Financial Accounting and Assets Executive Directorate and you will be accountable for some of the following: Accountable for leading and managing a team by setting priorities, managing workflows and resources, and driving strategies to achieve business outcomes. Ensures clear communication, establishes performance standards, and develops team capability through guidance, delegation, and performance management. Understanding and implementing practical governance requirements, risk oversight and facilitating compliance with the financial management framework. Contributing proactively to the completion of Defence's external financial reporting and asset accounting functions including preparation and presentation of monthly and annual financial reporting and applying a risk based quality assurance processes, financial statement analysis and compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal accounting policies. Liaising and collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders including auditors, business areas, procurement and systems specialists, contractors and members of the military. Providing sound practical advice and guidance to stakeholders on technical financial accounting and asset assurance activities. Understanding, applying, aligning Defence's mission and business objectives to financial reporting and accounting. Providing clear and consistent communication, managing expectations and setting clear performance and behavioural standards. Designing and recommending solutions to audit and financial reporting issues. Resolving problems using expertise and taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action. Working in the Financial Accounting and Assets Executive Directorate means you will be applying your professional judgement and knowledge to a huge range of complex accounting issues. The teams within the Executive Directorate are responsible for the full financial reporting function and the financial accounting of Defence. They are also accountable for policy advice, compliance assurance, conducting quality assurance checks on financial accounting activities and liaison with external auditors. The team's practical judgement is relied upon to deliver professional advice and reporting around complex assets, business processes, procurements and multi-year billion-dollar projects. The team is responsible for the financial accounting of the largest entity in the Commonwealth.
