Who we are The Inspector-General of Water Compliance: The Inspector-General of Water Compliance (Inspector-General) is an independent statutory role and an identified integrity agency, supported by staff provided by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water (the Department). Inspector-General's vision: Water management and use within the Murray-Darling Basin is lawful, transparent, and accountable, and the Australian public is confident in the integrity of Basin Plan delivery. Inspector-General's purpose: The Inspector-General ensures various government bodies, water managers and users in the Murray-Darling Basin (the Basin) comply with their obligations under the Water Act 2007 (Cth) (Water Act) and the Basin Plan 2012 (Cth) (Basin Plan) and drives governments and water managers to uphold high standards of integrity and performance. The Inspector-General's role includes oversighting the performance of government agencies in the management of Basin water resources, as well as ensuring compliance with various commitments under legislation. The Inspector-General currently has offices located in Adelaide, Albury, Brisbane, Canberra, Dubbo, Goondiwindi, Melbourne, Mildura and Sydney. The Inspector-General can support regional relocation to one of our Basin communities. The Operations Branch: Identifies and delivers enabling support services to strengthen organisational capability and enable the monitoring, oversight and compliance functions of the Inspector-General. Applies technical advice to meet operational needs and support strategic priorities. Partners with business areas to provide consistent, high-quality, fit for purpose advice and services. Continuously improves systems, processes, and service models to enhance efficiency, responsiveness, and organisational outcomes. Builds awareness and a common understanding of the organisation's role, direction and operations. The Strategy and Governance Team: The Strategy and Governance team supports the chains of responsibility and the overall strategic and operational goals of the IGWC in establishing and reviewing practices, processes, and policies that help to guide the organisation in the right direction. The key duties of the position include The Executive Officer Strategic Delivery provides high-level strategic and executive support to the Inspector-General of Water Compliance and senior leadership. Operating in a complex and politically sensitive intergovernmental environment, the role is pivotal in enabling the effective functioning of the office by anticipating executive needs, managing competing priorities, and driving impactful stakeholder engagement. The position requires exceptional judgement, communication and coordination skills to influence outcomes, foster collaboration, and represent the agency with professionalism and authority. Key responsibilities include: Supporting the Inspector-General and senior leaders with strategic advice, executive coordination, and timely responses to emerging priorities. Managing complex scheduling, logistics, and strategic engagements across the Basin, including briefings, forums, and follow-up actions. Leading the development of high-quality briefings, correspondence, speeches and presentations, in collaboration with relevant staff. Building and maintaining trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across jurisdictions and levels of government. Translating complex policy and stakeholder environments into practical strategies and clear messaging. Monitoring political sensitivities, reputational risks and emerging trends, providing strategic insight and advice. Facilitating cross-branch collaboration to align executive priorities with operational delivery. Identifying opportunities for strategic influence and engagement at ministerial, agency and community levels. Leading the planning and delivery of key initiatives, including the Annual All-Staff Workshop. Supporting a positive team culture through leadership, direction and alignment with agency goals. Assisting the Director of Strategy and Governance to ensure strategic and tactical alignment in delivering the Work Plan and Operational Plan. Performing other duties as required to support the Inspector-General and agency objectives.
