About eSafety At eSafety, we are pioneers in online safety regulation, leading global efforts to combat digital harms and foster safer, more positive online experiences for all Australians. Our mission is bold and far-reaching. From tackling cyberbullying and child sexual exploitation, to confronting emerging harms brought about by new innovations such as generative AI and immersive technologies, we oversee Australia's online safety landscape. About the team Sitting within the Corporate and Strategy Group, the Strategy, Engagement and Research Branch is focused on: national and international online safety regulations, policies and initiatives engaging with industry, international stakeholders and thought leaders achieving demonstrable change with Safety by Design by encouraging industry to take a proactive approach to anticipating, detecting and mitigating online risks understanding the nature and impact of online harms building the evidence-base for what works to prevent and remediate online harms. The Research and Evaluation team comprises a section manager, research assistants/research officers/senior research officers, and evaluation/senior evaluation officers. Our work focuses on supporting, encouraging, conducting and evaluating research about online safety for Australians. We do this so: our programs, policies and regulatory functions are evidence-informed robust, person-centred evidence on the prevalence and impact of online harms is available to stakeholders the evidence base on what works to prevent and remediate online harms continues to grow. We work in a highly collaborative way to enrich our research and evaluation design and products, drawing on the strengths of different individuals within the team. You can learn more about our work on the eSafety website. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your evaluation skills to support eSafety's mission to make Australians safer online. As an Evaluation Officer, you will work as part of a collaborative and expert mixed-methods research and evaluation team. You will support the design, implementation, and reporting of evaluation activities that inform strategy, policy, and programs addressing issues such as cyberbullying, parenting in the digital age, and image-based abuse. A key focus of this role will be supporting the evaluation of the world-first Social Media Minimum Age legislation. The successful applicant will work closely with the eSafety team and domestic and international experts, applying their evaluation and analytical skills to contribute to evidence-based insights that inform continuous improvement and strategic decision-making. The evaluation represents an unprecedented opportunity to study the impact of age-based social media restrictions, and to advance our scientific understanding of the relationship between social media and wellbeing. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to other evaluation projects across eSafety, building your expertise and supporting a culture of learning and improvement. The key duties of the position include Supporting the design and implementation of evaluation strategies for eSafety's regulatory and education initiatives, with a primary focus on the Social Media Minimum Age evaluation. Assisting with mixed-method evaluation projects, including data collection, analysis, and reporting. Conducting literature reviews and desk research and preparing high-quality summaries of evidence. Drafting clear, engaging evaluation reports and other written products, including peer-reviewed publications, for internal and external audiences. Contributing to the preparation of briefings and presentations for stakeholders and conferences. Supporting the management of external evaluation consultancies and related procurement processes. Collaborating with staff across eSafety and external partners to support evaluation activities and promote best practice. Contributing to a culture of learning and evaluation through participatory approaches and capacity-building activities. Keeping up to date with emerging trends and methodologies in evaluation and applying innovative approaches where appropriate. Providing operational and administrative support to the Senior Evaluation Officers and Research and Evaluation Section Manager as required. Mandatory qualifications and experience: An undergraduate degree (or higher) in social science, criminology, or a related discipline, where research methods and their application was a key component of the course work. 3 years of professional experience conducting primary research/evaluation in an evaluation/applied research setting. For example, where your core responsibilities included contributing to the design of methodologies, implementation of fieldwork, and/or analysis and dissemination of findings.
