This is an exciting opportunity to lead complex assessments and contribute to projects that shape the future of exploration and mining in NSW. About the role: As a Senior Project Officer, you’ll manage the assessment of complex mining and petroleum title applications under the Mining Act 1992 and Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991 . You’ll interpret legislation, apply policy and prepare high-quality reports and recommendations for decision makers. Beyond assessments, you’ll take ownership of projects that improve business processes and systems. This includes developing project plans, managing risks, allocating resources and reporting on deliverables in line with agency project management methodology. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring team members, supporting managers with complex cases and driving a culture of continuous improvement. Collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders will be central to your success. About you: You’re confident working with legislation and policy in a fast-paced environment. You can juggle competing priorities without losing sight of quality. Your communication skills allow you to explain complex concepts clearly and prepare concise, well-structured briefings. You bring experience in project management and stakeholder engagement and you’re comfortable leading initiatives that deliver measurable outcomes. A background in planning, mining, law, science or a related discipline is essential. Key responsibilities: Interpret and apply legislation to assess and determine complex title applications. Deliver timely, customer-focused outcomes while meeting statutory timeframes and KPIs. Lead and manage projects that improve processes and systems, including planning, risk management and reporting. Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders through effective communication and negotiation. Provide mentoring and guidance to team members and support managers with complex cases. Prepare detailed reports and briefings to government standards, ensuring compliance with decision-making principles and record-keeping requirements. Essential requirements: Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in planning, mining, law, science or a related discipline. Interested?
