We are looking for a Senior Specialist Adviser to lead development of advice to the Treasurer on the selection of nationally significant projects that meet the Investor Front Door's criteria, including by applying skills in commercial investment processes, project financing and investment analysis. While the Investor Front Door will work with proponents across all sectors of the economy, we expect to have a focus on sectors where there is a strong role for the Government to unlock private capital, including clean energy, critical minerals, green metals and data centres. Familiarity and experience with these sectors will be highly regarded. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in shaping the Investor Front Door and making a meaningful contribution to the Government's Future Made in Australia agenda. Key responsibilities include Overseeing assessments of proponent applications and detailed businesses cases to determine the degree to which projects align with the Government's selection criteria for 'nationally significant project' status. This includes an assessment of whether the project has a sufficiently developed and viable business case for reasonable prospects of success. Supporting a team analysing markets in which those projects operate to understand the viability of a project within the broader economic context and identifying and assessing the challenges and risks of the project. Undertaking engagement to validate assessments, including management and oversight of briefing materials and papers to support engagement with relevant regulators, policy agencies, and Specialist Investment Vehicles, and providing briefings to senior management. Making and justifying recommendations to the Treasurer and Cabinet, including preparing briefing materials and Cabinet submissions for decisions on projects. The available position is at the Executive Level 2 classification with negotiation around a starting salary based on demonstration of highly desirable skills and experience. The key duties of the position include Desirable Qualifications / Experience To fulfill these responsibilities, suitable candidates would ideally have: Extensive expertise and experience developing and/or analysing commercial investment proposals and project financing options. Demonstrated ability to undertake technical analysis of a project business case and form a robust view on the technical and commercial viability of a project. Strong stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to develop, coach and mentor staff and build deep technical capability across teams. An ability to apply knowledge of the markets in which significant projects will operate (for example, markets such as renewable energy technologies, energy generation and storage, critical minerals processing, infrastructure, low carbon liquid fuels, data centres). Familiarity with the Commonwealth Investment Framework is desirable but not essential. Examples of relevant experience could include previous employment in a Specialist Investment Vehicle or Government Business Enterprise, or as an investment banking or commercial analyst focused on project viability.
