The Disability Support Worker sits within the MacKillop Rural Community Services (MRCS) unit which provide family support, supported playgroups, parenting and early childhood education, counselling and support to young people who are vulnerable and at risk of homelessness, in-home accommodation support to adults with a disability, and early childhood intervention to children with a disability. The purpose of the Disability Support Worker is to provide support and assistance to NDIS participants to help them reach their potential, improve their quality of life and independence through the provision of a range of living skills, community participation and capacity building activities. The service is offered to NDIS participants living in Balranald and surrounding communities. The Disability Support Worker is a part of the Balranald Disability Services team. The role is based in Balranald NSW and reports to the Program Manager. Primary objectives The primary objective of the role is to enhance the lives of the participants, improve their level of independence, and integration into the community by assisting them in achieving the goals set out in their personal NDIS plans. The service does this by: - Assisting the participants to develop life skills - Coaching and prompting participants to build their capacity in everyday life - Supporting participants to access regular social, leisure and community participation activities Key result areas and responsibilities · Delivery of quality support services that maintain the privacy and dignity of the participants. · Ensure all participants are aware of their rights and what to expect from the service, the service charter, confidentiality, privacy, complaints and escalation process when participating in the program. Key selection criteria · Relevant experience working in disability, welfare or aged care sector or relevant field with appropriate transferrable skills. · A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families Ability to work as a team player within a multi-disciplinary team. · Flexibility and availability to work a variety of shifts · Ability to support people with challenging or complex behaviours · Willingness to obtain First Aid Certificate Our offer: Salary packaging – we can help you to maximize your salary packaging up to $18,550 per year, which allows you to reduce the amount of tax you pay.
