The key duties of the position include The Role The Business Intelligence and Visualisation (BI&V) directorate is looking to fill an exciting role for a candidate that is looking to utilise their data analytics skills while also have experience in leading and managing teams. This role will also provide opportunities for a candidate looking for career development into leadership roles in the data profession. Working as an APS 6 in the Directorate involves delivery of fundamental BI capability, business engagement and team management. Duties may include the following: Working within a specialised team analysing data, developing and delivering products, including stakeholder engagement for scope and requirements gathering. Lead advice and guidance on tools and information/reporting products including SME support on data concepts. Analysis and troubleshooting of issues on the analytical platform and delivered products. Co-ordination, management and presentation of training delivery. Initiate and support client communication and provide advice on innovation and business improvement. Development and provision of guidance, advice and support on the development of data interpretation, insights and visualisations. Experience with data skills, data practices and BI procedures and trends. Experience with analytical tools and techniques to define, structure and develop dashboards and reports. Resolve problems using expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action where appropriate. Contribute to project management to support development of data products. Experience in managing and developing teams. About our Team BI&V provide high quality and reliable business intelligence analysis and visualisation services to the Defence enterprise. The team are skilled and trained data professionals who utilise their highly refined knowledge and understanding of the Defence business and data landscape to produce business intelligence artefacts for internal customers, reducing time to actionable insights. BI&V work with customers in their data value chains from the Process phase through to the Disseminate phase creating re-usable data products where possible. By working closely with customers at each stage of the process and utilising best practices and guidelines, each data product produced is designed to deliver enterprise effects as fast as possible. Within the Data Division's service model, BI&V also provides ongoing support for managing existing business intelligence artefacts such as dashboards and reports within the One Defence Data platform. Within this service model, the team also share relevant business intelligence and visualisation expertise with customers, and provide continuous business improvement relating to business intelligence activities. Our Ideal Candidate We are looking for an individual that can apply their knowledge and experience to make an immediate and enduring impact to the activities of the team. The ideal candidate for the role will have: Demonstrated experience in the development, delivery, sustainment and/or support of analytical and information products, including stakeholder engagement. (Essential) Demonstrated experience-managing teams and have aspiration into leadership roles. (Essential) A proactive, resilient and methodical approach to managing workload including the ability maintain composure under pressure, particularly in periods of high tempo and where client needs demand a quick turn-around. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical matters to non-technical audiences. Knowledge and experience of the Defence business and data landscape (desirable). Knowledge in programming languages such as SQL and data analysis and visualisation tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Cloudera Data Visualisation. Experience in managing and coordinating data projects, particularly in a public sector environment would be highly regarded. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex datasets and generate meaningful insights Understanding and experience with data modelling and data warehousing/lake concepts The ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others, to actively contribute to team goals and lead team members in achieving shared objectives.
