The Community Information team is a specialist team that resides in the Bureau's Decision Support Services Program. The core function of this team is to deliver a continuous weather narrative to the Australian Community, that inspires informed decision-making and action and enables the community to be resilient to the impacts of weather, water, climate, space and oceans. We are seeking an experienced science communicator to work within a nationally focused team, located in Australian capital cities, to provide live and pre-recorded scheduled radio crosses and social media posts with a weather focus. Other public-facing services, including responding to print, online and social media enquiries and occasional television crosses will form part of the role. Successful applicants will be provided with appropriate meteorological and/or media training to build upon existing skills. You will have the skills and passion to deliver engaging weather-focused radio crosses - with an ability to build trust and respect with the audience, through tailoring content and providing an explanation of the past weather observations, present conditions, and future weather expectations. You will have the ability to deliver complex scientific information in a way that the community can understand and act on. You will have an understanding of working within Government, and an understanding of Australia's geographic, social and economic diversity. Community Information Officers are committed to supporting the Bureau and our partners outside the scope of standard working hours, with shift work being the primary way of working. During severe weather and peak periods, you may be asked to extend your hours (at times at short notice), aligned to operational requirements. This could include temporarily filling operational roles as required nationally; and contributing to the seamless delivery of briefings to partners and media interviews. While forming a pivotal role in the Bureau's Decision Support Services program, you will also work closely with other teams from within the Community Services Group, Communications Program and the Business Services Group to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of the continuous weather narrative.
