Introduction About Us We are the Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation (AKKF). Since 2002, we’ve created safe, fun and meaningful programs for young people (aged 8-18) living in families affected by mental illness, helping them connect, learn and grow. Our evidence-based camps, activity days and online “Connect” sessions are designed by mental health professionals, delivered in a peer based, recreation led format, and proven to empower young people to thrive beyond the impacts of familial mental illness. Description About the Role Hours : Part Time 0.8 FTE Location : Western Sydney Region As a Community Engagement Coordinator, you’ll be the local face of Kookaburra Kids, building relationships with community partners, schools, Defence networks and referral agencies to help young people and their families connect with our programs. You’ll spend much of your time out in the community meeting partners, attending events, and creating opportunities for young people to get involved. You’ll also recruit and support volunteers who help us deliver our camps and activity days. It’s a role for someone who enjoys variety, takes initiative, and can balance relationship-building with the practical realities of regional coordination and administration. Some travel and occasional weekend work is part of the job, but the reward is seeing your work directly contribute to kids having life changing experiences. You’ll work within a supportive, remote based national team that values collaboration, trust and flexibility, while giving you autonomy to make things happen in your region. Skills And Experiences About You You’re a connector who genuinely enjoys engaging with people and building meaningful relationships. You thrive on variety and can comfortably move between community meetings, volunteer coordination, and data entry with professionalism and energy. You’ll bring: Experience in community engagement, partnership development, or volunteer coordination Strong organisational and communication skills Confidence working independently, managing competing priorities, and representing AKKF professionally in the community A high level of integrity, initiative, and commitment to AKKF’s mission The ability to work flexibly, travel within your region, and occasionally support programs on weekends Experience working in the not-for-profit, mental health or youth sectors such as education, or familiarity with the Defence community, will be highly regarded.
