The Opportunity Our Bulk Berth Operations team is looking for a Bulk Berth Operator to join the team based in Port Kembla . As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers. Based right on the waterfront, this role offers a unique workplace setting that’s both scenic and energising. The Bulk Berth Department is an integral part of our manufacturing operations and is one of the first steps in creating Iron and Steel through the movement of Bulk Materials. As the Bulk Berth Level 3 Operator, you will be responsible for discharging raw materials and loading aggregate finished products. Product is discharged / loaded off and on cargo ships using large land based cranes. You will rotate through all machine operations, as well as be responsible for general housekeeping, equipment troubleshooting and diagnostics, plant setups and isolations. Working in a supportive team environment, you will contribute to the safety of our people, quality of our product and the reliability of our equipment. This position is for a 12 month fixed term on a 24/7 day and night rotating shift. What Will You Do? Successfully contributing to a safe working environment, this opportunity will see you operate and fault-find on key machines, including: No/3 Ore Unloader – discharges bulk material on berth 111 No/2 Ore Unloader – discharge bulk material on berth 112 and berth 111 Coke Loader – safely deliver high quality coke to the vessel as per load plan Front End Loader – machine up hatches and housekeeping on the berth Operate elevated work platform to knock down cargo in ships hatches Trim/ sweep hatches Tying up and letting go of vessels from all berths Carry out work to change ropes and grabs on cranes More About You As an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, you quickly adapt and have an eagerness to learn. You will have: A commitment to your own safety and that of others Ability to obtain a Maritime Security Identification Card Ability to obtain high risk work permit for Bridge and Gantry Crane, Elevated Work Platform, Dogging and Forklift Driving A willingness to proactively assist your team by taking initiative to perform ancillary work and improve shift performance Exposure or experience in the operation of a continuous industrial process Consistently high standards when executing all tasks A good head for heights—you’ll be working on cranes and ship hatches with 50 metre high step and stair access—so a sound level of physical fitness is essential.
