Job Description About the role As a Mechanical Technician at Sydney Airport, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation of our Baggage Handling Systems (BHS). You will be responsible for coordinating both the operations and maintenance of the BHS, ensuring that high levels of service are delivered to our customers. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining the reliability and efficiency of our systems, contributing directly to the passenger experience. What you’ll be doing Overseeing the operation and maintenance of the Baggage Handling Systems to ensure minimal disruption. Conducting fault finding, emergency repairs, and routine maintenance on all BHS equipment. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth BHS operations, including during contingencies. Providing technical expertise for complex BHS issues and supporting the BHS Shift Manager as needed. Ensuring all work is conducted in compliance with relevant safety, quality, and environmental regulations. What you’ll bring Mechanical Trade Qualification and relevant post-trade qualifications. Extensive experience with maintenance and fault finding on complex conveyor systems or material handling systems. Proficiency in using SCADA systems and PLCs, with experience in Siemens S7 and Citect SCADA preferred. Previous experience working in an airport or other security-controlled environments is advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work at heights and perform manual handling tasks.
