The Employer Located near Hawkesdale within the Western District of Victoria, Alanvale Farms are a progressive, family-focused, recently converted dairy-to-beef operation spanning 3,000 hectares. The farm consists of 2,000 self-replacing Angus cows, and trades a further 2,000 head, annually. The farm features modern facilities, high-rainfall pastures, an intensive centre pivot grazing system and has a strong focus on cattle performance. Alanvale Farms is seeking a full-time, experienced beef cattle leading hand to join their current team, a team that prides itself on long-term staff retention. The Role You will take day-to-day responsibility for livestock and property operations in your area of the farm, working closely with the Operations Manager. You will be trusted to make decisions independently, with support and mentoring provided. This position offers variety and hands-on involvement across all aspects of the cattle operation. Daily work includes management of breeding and trade cattle, stock handling, drafting, feeding and general livestock care. The role also involves working within intensive grazing and irrigation systems, operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment, fencing, water systems, pasture and property maintenance, and supporting seasonal programs and day-to-day farm tasks. The successful candidate will become an integral part of a vibrant team comprising both full-time staff and seasonal contractors. This full-time position will also include weekend work at times. The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who can take ownership of their own area of the farm (livestock or infrastructure) and manage it day-to-day. You will have the support of the Operations Manager, but the expectation is you can run daily tasks on your own without needing step-by-step guidance. Ideally, you will have proven experience with beef cattle in a commercial or family farm setting, the confidence to work independently and take responsibility for livestock care, infrastructure, and property tasks. You don't need to know everything across the whole operation, but you must be capable, independent, and confident enough to make decisions and keep things moving without constant direction. You will also have the opportunity to grow further with the business over time. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess: Beef cattle experience essential A team of working dogs would be considered advantageous Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Infrastructure maintenance and water management skills The ability to operate a tractor proficiently and safely Adherence to OH&S policies Strong work ethic, reliability and a commitment to career development Driver's licence essential The Offer A competitive salary commensurate with experience, skills, and relevant industry qualifications will be negotiated for the successful candidate.
