About us: The Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU) is a dedicated 12-bed short stay unit designed to support timely assessment, clinical planning, and early management for patients requiring multidisciplinary input. Serving as an intermediary between the Emergency Department and inpatient wards, MAPU enhances decision-making and promotes efficient patient flow. At Rockhampton Hospital, MAPU aims to ease the pressure of medical admissions on the ED, reduce length of stay through timely access to multidisciplinary care, improve the quality of care and patient outcomes, and ensure the effective use of hospital resources. About the role: The role supports a safe, comfortable, and positive unit environment for staff, patients, and visitors, while assisting the Nurse Unit Manager with operational improvements that enhance service efficiency, financial sustainability, and patient outcomes. It includes implementing and monitoring organisational quality, safety, and clinical governance requirements, coordinating quality initiatives and audits in collaboration with NG7, and applying evidence-based practice in both clinical and management duties. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. About you: * Registration as a Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and a current practicing certificate are mandatory for this position. * Although not mandatory, a relevant postgraduate qualification or working towards is desirable for this position.
