The Role As the Assistant State Manager for NSW, you will support and oversee operations across three key sites: Sydney, Newcastle and ACT. Reporting directly to the State Manager, NSW, this pivotal role combines strategic support with hands-on operational management, coaching and leadership across the state. You’ll help lead a team of approximately 60 people, spanning both blue- and white-collar roles, while driving operational, cultural and safety excellence across all NSW operations. You will also act as the key point of leadership when the State Manager is offline, making this an exceptional opportunity for someone seeking long-term succession into a State Manager position. Key Responsibilities Supporting daily operational leadership, including service delivery, logistics, compliance and customer service Leading and mentoring diverse teams — blue- and white-collar — to foster collaboration, performance and retention Assisting in recruitment, training, coaching and performance management of state-level staff Ensuring compliance with safety and industry accreditation standards (SQF, HACCP, ISCC) Contributing to financial outcomes through cost control and effective debtor management Stepping up into full leadership responsibilities during periods of absence You will have significant experience gained within a leadership position - this may be as an Assistant Manager, Operations Manager, Business Manager, Assistant General Manager or State Manager (ideally within Food Services or FMCG), or you may have led diverse, high-performing teams in other dynamic settings such as the sporting arena, hospitality/restaurant sector (multi-venue), or large commercial kitchens. You will also bring: Ability to navigate both blue- and white-collar teams effectively Open-minded, inclusive, charismatic and personable leadership style Confidence to make tough decisions and have robust but respectful conversations — as well as receive feedback A down-to-earth and resilient nature with the ability to connect with, coach and inspire people from all walks of life A proactive and approachable style, capable of switching seamlessly between strategic and hands-on Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a knack for building trust and modelling a “One Team” approach A strong interest in understanding the business from the ground up — and a genuine desire to spend time with your people This role provides the unique opportunity to work alongside a dynamic, highly skilled State Manager to influence culture, improve operational efficiencies, elevate customer experience and leave a tangible leadership footprint across NSW.
