The key duties of the position include As the Assistant Secretary, Digital Solutions and Enablement , the duties of the role include: Strategic Leadership Develop and execute a digital delivery roadmap that aligns with DAFF's trade and biosecurity priorities. Lead cross-agency and cross-border digital initiatives to streamline trade processes and enhance biosecurity intelligence. Digital Capability Delivery Oversee the design, development, and implementation of digital platforms that support import/export operations, regulatory compliance, and risk management. Ensure systems are scalable, re-usable, secure, and interoperable across jurisdictions and international partners. Operational Excellence Ensure continuity and reliability of existing digital systems ("keep the lights on") while driving iterative improvements to enhance performance, usability, and resilience. Establish robust service management practices and incident response protocols to maintain system integrity and availability. Biosecurity Risk Management Integrate advanced analytics, AI, and real-time data to detect and respond to biosecurity threats. Collaborate with scientific, regulatory, and operational teams to embed biosecurity protocols into digital workflows. Stakeholder Engagement Build strong partnerships with industry, government agencies, international bodies, and technology providers. Represent the department in national forums on digital trade and biosecurity innovation. Governance & Assurance Ensure digital systems and capabilities comply with legislative, privacy, and cybersecurity requirements. Monitor financial and performance metrics and continuously improve system effectiveness and user experience. To be successful in the role you will need to meet the Senior Executive Service capability for the SES Band 1 level, and you will have the following: Demonstrated deep understanding of Commonwealth Public Service and a strong grasp of the digital investment and oversight frameworks and the government architectural principles that support its functions. Demonstrated ability to deliver large and complex digital transformation initiatives across government. Demonstrated ability to drive broad transformational change, both internal and external to the department. Outstanding executive leadership skills, a substantial record of achievement and a reputation for ethics, innovation and delivery of results. Excellent stakeholder relationship skills and experience in engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to explore opportunities and solve complex problems. Ability to represent the department at a range of forums. Demonstrating a strategic perspective and ability to manage competing demands and work to tight deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively with all audiences, be articulate and persuasive and capable of guiding negotiations to a point of resolution in a facilitative way. Demonstrated public service professionalism and application of integrity and probity. Note: The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future vacancies in the department where the duties are of a similar nature.
