The APVMA's Agricultural Chemicals program is seeking applications for an Assistant Director Pesticides to evaluate the safety, efficacy, trade impact and labelling of regulated chemical and agricultural products within legislative timeframes. Located in either Canberra ACT or regional Armidale NSW , you will gain experience in the Australian Public Service, have access to a variety of flexible working arrangements, and have the opportunity to exercise delegated powers for evaluation, to register new products, to vary existing products and to approve product labels. The key duties of the position include Assistant Directors will apply a comprehensive knowledge of the APVMA's operational policy and legislative framework in undertaking a range of scientific, technical, and operational tasks including: Taking responsibility for own and team achievements, planning and monitoring work processes and following through to deliver quality outcomes Directing and coordinating quality assurance practices and setting performance indicators Supervising and managing staff and providing expert advice and assistance to team members and peers Analysing, evaluating and applying risk assessment and management principles to the assessment of complex scientific and/or technical information Liaising with other senior staff to manage workflow and resource allocation to ensure corporate objectives and legislative requirements and timeframes are met Exercising delegations and responsibilities while ensuring adherence to legal requirements Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues in an appropriate and timely manner Representing the APVMA in a range of forums Ensuring in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks and agency guidelines and regulations.
