What’s in it for you Earn while you learn – complete a four-year paid apprenticeship combining work while studying a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology Learn from experienced mechanics and gain hands-on skills every day Valuable on-the-job experience working directly on Council’s fleet of heavy vehicles Access to wellbeing programs, learning opportunities and Council benefits What you’ll do Assist with the inspection, servicing and repair of Council’s trucks, graders, loaders and other heavy plant and equipment Learn to diagnose mechanical faults and perform routine maintenance Safely use hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment Take part in both on-the-job and formal off-the-job training What we’re looking for We are seeking someone who: Has completed a minimum of Year 10 (pre-apprenticeship or previous mechanical exposure will be highly regarded, but not essential) Genuinely interested in mechanics and enjoys hands-on problem solving Committed to learning and completing the apprenticeship qualification Safety conscious, with an understanding of safe work habits and the importance of following procedures Reliable, responsible and a good communicator, who works well in a teamPhysically capable of performing manual work and working in a workshop environment Recruitment timeline A Group Assessment Centre will be held at Council’s Depot at 4 Alex Pike Drive, Raleigh, on Tuesday 2 December 2025 from 8:30am to approx. 1:00pm and all shortlisted applicants must attend.
