When it comes to Kiwis helping Kiwis in Australia, it doesn’t get much better than this. TVNZ One News Now correspondent ‘Kimberly Downs’ reported and documented an evening out with the Maori Wardens of Melbourne.
In the interview Victoria Maori wardens chairman Keegan Grant said…
“I guess our main achievement is engaging with them, aroha kititangata, love for the people, and see whether we can mentor any of these kids that are roaming around tonight,”
It’s a deliberately cultural approach to target Maori and Pacific Island youths who may be headed for trouble or are already in it.
With many of the youths having spent most of their lives in Australia, it’s also about reconnecting them with their roots.
If ever an example was needed to show case true Aroha for our people, hard work, dedication & commitment this is right up there.
Well Done to everyone involved.
