We’re seeking a Softgoods Engineer to join the Textile Centre of Excellence within our product design and hardware engineering group. In this role, you’ll develop textile solutions that enhance comfort, performance, and usability for people who rely on our products every day for better sleep and quality of life. Let’s Talk About the Role As a Softgoods Engineer, you’ll investigate textile materials and manufacturing processes to develop softgoods for medical devices. Working closely with design, product development, and supply chain teams, you’ll ensure our products meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and user experience. With a deep understanding of material behaviour and a user-centred approach, you will translate ideas into functional, manufacturable solutions. In this role, you will: Design and develop softgoods concepts using your knowledge of fibers, yarns, fabrics, foams, and textile manufacturing methods (welding, bonding, taping, overmoulding, thermoforming, wrapping, etc.). Develop and evaluate materials to meet comfort, aesthetic, quality, cost, and sustainability targets. Collaborate with external vendors and manufacturing specialists to ensure materials and designs achieve performance and scalable production. Advance softgoods manufacturing processes to ensure suitability for high-volume production and alignment with cost and quality requirements. Key Responsibilities Apply Design Thinking principles to understand user needs, explore concepts, and develop effective softgoods solutions. Conduct ideation, feasibility studies, prototyping, and rigorous testing for textile and textile-integrated components. Research emerging materials and manufacturing technologies and contribute to intellectual property development for novel materials or processes. As part of the Textile CoE, mentor and support engineers across departments in selecting appropriate textile materials and manufacturing methods. Work closely with Industrial Design, Product Development, Sourcing, and other stakeholders to align functionality, comfort, cost, manufacturability, and innovation priorities. Stay current with textile industry trends, technologies, and best practices to drive innovation. Design, prototype, and evaluate textiles using both conventional and emerging processes (weaving, knitting, lamination, ultrasonic welding, etc.). Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to optimise materials, processes, and designs for global production. Travel internationally as needed to support supplier development, manufacturing reviews, or material evaluations. Qualifications & Experience Required Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Fashion/Apparel Engineering, or a related field. 4 years of experience in softgoods or textile product development (e.g., medical devices, performance apparel, activewear, footwear, sporting goods). Strong knowledge of textile manufacturing and softgoods integration methods (knitting, braiding, coating, finishing, ultrasonic/RF welding, bonding, seam taping, laminating, thermoforming, shaping, overmoulding with plastics). Strong communication and collaboration skills with experience working across multidisciplinary teams and with suppliers. A proactive, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving skills. Preferred Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks, etc.). Experience working with global suppliers, integrators, and manufacturing partners. Experience with digital softgoods design tools (Clo3D, Browzwear, Optitex, etc.). Ability to sketch and communicate concepts in 2D/3D.
