The General Practitioner provides culturally safe services within a comprehensive primary health care (CPHC) framework across all sections of Congress' Health Services Division. As the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation in the Northern Territory, Congress employs a large team of GPs across our 13 clinics in the Central Australian region.
The GP position(s) work within a multidisciplinary team practising interesting and complex medicine. General Practitioners provide high quality clinical and culturally safe care and work to optimise the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people. The GPs are also involved in providing chronic disease care, health checks, preventative health care, health promotion, and routine general practice consultations.
At Alukura Women's Health Service, responsibilities will involve managing all aspects of women's health including gynecological conditions, contraception, cervical screening, STI screening, and pre-pregnancy care. The role will also support the comprehensive midwifery-led standard antenatal and postnatal care to maximize the health of mother and child as well as providing care for high-risk pregnancies in consultation with an obstetrician. They will also contribute to postnatal care for both mothers and newborns up to 6 weeks.
Ingkintja: Wurra apa artwuka pmara is a male only, CPHC service that aims to improve the health outcomes of Aboriginal males of all ages. General Practitioners are involved in managing all aspects of male health including providing outreach and remote services through the Male Health Truck. Ingkintja is staffed with GPs, GP Registrars, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Aboriginal Liaison Officer, and Client Services Officer.
