R&D Operations Manager
S&W Seed Company is a global leader in lucerne, wheat, grain & forage sorghums, sunflower, and other key crops. Their seed breeders collaborate with industry, using their proprietary germplasm to create market-leading genetics for modern cropping and forage systems. They now seek a R&D Operations Manager, a key role for their new Toowoomba facility with a young, diverse breeding and QA team.
The Manager will be responsible for the execution of all Australian summer crop breeding and trialling operations, for the execution of summer crop breeding and field trials across the Northern region. Responsibilities include: Managing the day to day requirements of the company’s new Toowoomba facility, including agronomic trial oversight and execution and collaboration with the production team Collaboration with sorghum and sunflower breeders, preparing seed for, and liaising with, NVT trial providers Supporting product launch and field day activities, including the supply of technical information to the commercial team, and ensuring testing agreements and contracts are recorded and traceable Implementing an operational plan to deliver results, and overseeing budgets for relevant areas of responsibility Recruitment, supervision and mentoring of casual staff and contractors, building a network of contractors and service suppliers, leading by example to ensure a safe, high functioning work environment We are keen to hear from you if you possess the following: Hands-on experience in plant breeding programs, with sound planning and coordination of trial activities across multiple sites and regions Strong, effective people skills with a decisive and consultatory style in bringing people along, meeting challenges and helping build the program Experience managing internal and external stakeholders, and representing the business in hosting and presenting to external groups Strong self-management in meeting deadlines for budgets and operational planning and reporting, along with strong IT skills (software and hardware) Clear critical thinking in problem solving and effective decision making in what can at times be a pressured environment Tertiary qualifications in Agricultural Science or equivalent preferred This is a real career opportunity with a strong international seed business which continues to expand with market leading products.
