- Repair and Maintenance - Operations Focus - Ouse, Tasmania Company Cleveland Pastoral is a 8400 hectare family run operation established in 1936. The property is located in the picturesque Derwent Valley, situated 100 kilometres from Hobart. The property is surrounded by rivers, with undulating to steep challenging terrain which showcases their striking and expansive landscape.
Cleveland Pastoral are running 2000 self-replacing Angus and Angus Hereford cattle, marketing F1 Wagyu calves from first year heifers to Feedlot and Beef weaners at an on farm auction. , 7000 Self Replacing Merino sheep (3500 Ewes) which 800 are joined to a South down terminal sire. and 500 Goats.
The goats are primarily run to control Woody weeds (Sweet Bria Rose) and surplus stock sold to the local meat market.) The enterprise has a reliable 800mm of annual rainfall and utilises this to maximise their pasture performance, and conserving fodder during the spring surplus period to fill in a feed shortage during winter. There is an ongoing pasture renovation and development program including turnip fodder crops.
The property also includes extensive native hardwood forests and Hard/Softwood plantations manage on a long rotation and value added. Position This role will be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of farm assets including plant, equipment, yards, fencing & water infrastructure. Operation of tractors & trucks & machinery, fertiliser application and tasks associated with fodder production, pasture maintenance and renovation.
Key Responsibilities Carryout machinery servicing and preventive maintenance Operate machinery associated with fodder production and pasture renovation Monitor pasture and effectively manage weeds Maintain farm infrastructure, stock yards, fences, water infrastructure Welding and general repairs Assist team in key livestock husbandry practises when required Skills and Experience Ideally 2 – 3 years’ experience in a farm maintenance role Stockyard & fencing building Previous experience operating wide range of farm equipment Ability to weld using ARC or Oxy Skilled at troubleshooting and repairing machinery Self-reliant and comfortable working autonomously Education Current ChemCert qualifications are required First Aid training would be advantageous Current unrestricted car licence, HR licence desirable A recognised mechanical trade Certificate in Diesel or Automotive disciplines would be advantageous Remuneration An attractive remuneration package including a comfortable family home, work vehicle and relocation assistance will be negotiated to reflect skills and experience.
