Associate to the Honourable Justice Connock Supreme Court of Victoria Justice Connock is seeking a legally qualified individual to be his Associate for a period of 12-18 months, commencing in March or August/September 2021. The precise start date will not become clear until later this year. Justice Connock manages and hears a wide range of commercial matters within the Commercial Court, including claims relating to contract, equity, statutory breaches, injunctive relief, as well as class actions.
As the Judge in charge of the Corporations List, his Honour is engaged in the management and determination of proceedings involving liquidators, administrators, receivers, oppression claims, derivative leave applications and related corporations matters. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience across the Commercial Court and closely observe the work of judge and counsel. You should have an excellent academic record, strong research skills, and a genuine interest in commercial and corporations law.
To be well-suited to this role you will be hard- working, organised and able to work both independently and collectively. You will also be able to write clearly and concisely. At least one year's post admission experience at a law firm (or similar) is desirable.
The Commercial Court is a judge-managed list so the preferred candidate will require an ability to manage work in chambers and in court, as well as a high volume of administrative demands. Duties include: Undertaking high level legal research; Assisting with the production of judgments, papers and presentations including proof-reading and editing; Performing a wide range of administrative tasks, including managing the demands of a Judge Managed List; Acting as chambers' first point of contact, liaising with other judges, Court staff, the public, the media and the profession; and Undertaking the duties of an Associate in Court.
