About the Role The overall purpose of the Technical Officer (Exercise Science) is to ensure laboratories, equipment and materials are maintained and appropriately set up for undergraduate and postgraduate laboratory practicals, as well as general laboratory usage, within the Exercise Physiology, Exercise Biochemistry, Exercise Rehabilitation and Motor Control areas in the College of Sport and Exercise Science.
About the Person You will be working in the Technical Services department at Victoria University. The department is a shared service providing support to the University Colleges and Victoria University Polytechnic (VU’s TAFE division). This role provides services into both sectors as required.
Your experience and knowledge of the Exercise Physiology and Biochemistry, Clinical Rehabilitation and Motor Control disciplines, along with your commitment to providing a positive student experience will assist you in delivering on Victoria University’s vision to empower a diverse community of students, to grow their capabilities and transform their lives. Duties An example of duties you may perform will include: Set up and monitor the running of undergraduate and postgraduate laboratory practicals in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Biochemistry, Exercise Rehabilitation and Motor Control laboratories. Update equipment manuals with manufacturers’ information and prepare technical notes on recommended use of stock and consumable supplies.
Ensure teaching laboratories and preparation areas operate in an appropriate condition to comply with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Biosafety policies and to provide a safe and clean working environment. Maintain and manage consumable and chemical stocks including the upgrade of the inventories and liaising with the Technical Manager on the replacement of consumable and chemicals and the control of incoming orders. Maintain at all times, the Exercise Physiology, Exercise Biochemistry, Exercise Rehabilitation and Motor Control laboratory equipment for the College and ensure that these are in operating order according to the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure equipment is available and in good working order at all times.
